Does any one know how to get rid of this demonic plant, it’s slowly taking over a local waterway, most of the literature I read said glysophate helps, but that’s toxic to water life. Any suggestions?

Eradicating knotweed is a labor-intensive process. With herbicides, there’s the cut 'n paint method where you cut off the stems and carefully apply glyphosate to the stumps rather than spraying. The harms related to herbicide are mostly due to industrial-scale applications to soil with low organic matter content in agricultural systems, leading to massive amounts of runoff. I’d be less worried about a careful, small-scale application.

Glysophate/Round up specifically states that it’s toxic to aquatic organisms and this is all growing next to rivers. I guess it might be better to bite the bullet and just risk using it to stop it spreading.
