I finally have passion flower seedlings going strong. Juniper got her own watering can so she can take a more active role in the garden, and loves getting a chance to play with the water and feel like she’s contributing.
The cherries and haskaps have finished flowering, but the apples, blueberries, and strawberries are in full bloom.
What’s growing on with you all?
Someone gave us a blueberry bush as a house warming gift, it has some berries growing. Hoping I can get some before the squirrels.
The strawberries that were already here have some big fruit, still green. I intentionally leave those for the animals to get.
I planted a gooseberry start, but it’d only been in the ground for a few weeks.
I built my first elevated bed - 12 inches of soil, with 4 foot legs so I don’t have to bend over. Planted some strawberry starts that seem to be establishing. Planted some seeds that are starting to sprout - arugula is going strong, peas are sprouting, and I just saw some basil first leaves this morning. Still waiting for cucumber, zucchini, parsley, and oregano to show itself.
What a nice gift! Our library has some of those 4-5’ high beds, they’re super nice to work with. Speaking of nice, that sounds like a really great garden.
My next project is a raised tomato bed - think a 3 foot high box of soil. Future plans also include sectional removing lawn and putting in native plants, but that’s a years long vision. And maybe putting in a dragonfly pond, subject to my partner agreeing with me.
