Unlike traditional wildlife reintroductions, where species are physically released into the wild, this case is unique. The beaver’s return to Portugal happened independently, with the animals crossing from Spain on their own. Rewilding Portugal emphasized that this natural movement demonstrates how important healthy habitats and wildlife corridors are in restoring lost biodiversity.

The physical signs are convincing enough for experts to begin monitoring and preparing for a long-term return. Rewilding Portugal noted that some individuals may now be living and establishing territories in the area.

Incredibly uplifting. It’s amazing to think that beavers were essentially eliminated in the region over 500 years ago, and due to some positive modern movements, have been able to bring themselves back into the region. Good Job, Team Beavers!

Looking past the ominous undertones. I for one welcome our new Beaver Overlords.

Nothing ominous about it, what are you talking about?

I mean, Timberborn isn’t a pro-Beaver psy-op campaign disguised as a cute video game that is ACTUALLY designed to train humans to mindlessly assist with Beaver terraforming crews when the day comes the Beaver Overlords decide to launch Operation Incisor what are you talking about? That is crazy talk…
