But I still think solarpunk may be a bit darker than even “bright”, as technology is not only the tools to make the change, but technology is one aspect of it and direct change in the political and economical system is needed as well.
I think solarpunk is more dark than bright.
Taking electric vehicles as an example: Electric vehicles are great and should replace nearly all fossil powered vehicles. But at the same time, the amount of vehicles should be reduced significantly. This can happen trough better public transport, but also by reducing the need to go places, especially related to consumption and work. In my opinion, this can only work with a shift in the way our economy works.

Another more crazy idea could be to use a remote (e.g. a smartphone) which communicates with lights to automatically have illuminaiton around you from public lights. People could even set their own brightness
What about some combination of 2 and 3 with “smart” control, like motion activated or buttons that light up a street for the next 500m or so and turn off after some time

Very true and I think the 2 points could already come a long way. They could also be applied to the fediverse or similar networks without issue.
Very well put! I think parts of the fediverse are pretty close already, because they really focus on community. slrpnk, beehaw or mander come to mind. But the larger the instances are, the less they are an actual community and more of a random collection of people.
The people that I know who would be interested in the concept are also the people who don’t have any social-media at all…

Yeah that is also I thought I have, but usually more with encryption. If the government (or any other entity really) wants to mandate a backdoor to private messages, I’ll just host my own service for that. They can’t control every private person (at least as long encryption isn’t broken). The same idea would could be applied to social-media. Even if there’s a total ban, they won’t be able to prosecute anyone hosting their own little server.
One of the biggest problems in research is that there is no control: We don’t know what would have happend without the seeding. So we can only compare random storms that are seeded and not. Here the differences are very small (i.e. statistically insignificant). But that doesn’t mean it has no effect.
Also I think we should be careful when using such things at large scale, as we just don’t know the outcome. In small quantities it is however no hazard at all.
It is unclear if seeding actually has a large enough impact on hail formation.

It has mostly to do with water temperatures. Tropical cyclones need at least 27°C. Then, tjey can’t form too close to the equator due to coriolis force. Some addittional factors play a role, that leave these areas.
