Luckily I’m in an area where there are both… to an extent. I really liked what the person said here, that basically it is stupid to waste fuel and money on shorter trips. In the US though we just don’t have that sort of connection. Our train stations are miles away from airports, and they would require separate tickets, and it’s just a hassle.

They’re a no brainer if you have land. Even farmers who don’t want to cover their crops, I see solar panels fitting perfectly over drainage ditches/ creeks / edges of their land. Areas they can’t farm, but could generate a ton of free electricity not just for themselves but also sell back. Then also over water means less evaporation, lower water bills for them.

Depending. Jellyfin/Immich could probably still use it, they really don’t take a lot of GPU power.

For us here, my advice right now is to not sell any computers. Shortages will end, but we have no idea of when that will happen. For now, you never know when you’ll need spare parts or a spare machine.

That being said (selfishly) if you’re an ebay seller please keep selling :D

Yeah, op sounds like younger me, wanted to help everyone. Still do, but more realism added in. The more you help, the more people take advantage. Not those who need help but those whose jobs it is who should be doing something in the first place.

Help clean the highway medians? They’ll reduce the cleaning budget of the highways and people will litter more. Food banks are stuffed full with donations? Guess we don’t need those welfare programs. Put in an extra hour after work? Great we can expect you to do that forever now.

Every positive thing you do there is someone with money who is waiting to profit off of your free labor. It sucks.

It’s easy on the internet to go full doomer, and to assume if it’s not the best case that it’s the worst, when really, it’s probably somewhere in between.

Exactly. They’re right, but it’s just a way to not feel guilty about driving a gas guzzler or using a gas furnace. No the corporations are more guilty, but that doesn’t make you innocent for just shifting the blame, the same tactic they did. We ALL need to change our ways.

Like I’m all for that we need to hold a fire under corporations. But we also need to change too. Just because they do like, 70% of it doesn’t mean we’re off the hook. We’re buying those products that they pollute for. We drive the cars that are polluting. We buy the cheap clothes that they shamelessly pollute. We each have to change.
