I don’t want to be one of “those guys” but if we ever do progress AI to the point of AGI we will be able to take care of an aging population without infinite population growth.
(Whether or not the oligarchs who control that AGI will decide to help people instead of hoarding that power is a different problem.)
No doubt it should be considered extreme weather. But since things like this happen with regularity, the infrastructure should be engineered to handle it.
It’s likely cheaper for them to ignore the problem, however.
I was here for it - Beryl took out the whole city, even the parts far, far away from the effects of the storm surge. One would expect chaos on the coast, but not inland. 70-90mph gusts are common enough (multiple times per year) that the grid should be resilient to them, but it simply isn’t. Blatant infrastructure mismanagement.

Aren’t modern vehicles more fuel efficient though, despite being bigger? Imagine if we kept them the same size and still improved their efficiency.
Nobody really needs a 2D projection of the world anymore - we’re all packing superior 3D renderers in our pockets. It’s just hard to break old habits.
I’m aware of that, the point is that we might not continue to have that ability in the future should birth rates continue to fall.
And yes, greed is the main driver of human suffering today, and will likely be the same in the future.
