If you’re talking about keyboard longevity, the keyboard body itself matters almost not at all. The switches are essentially the only moving parts to wear out, and they’re mostly interchangeable. The letters can wear off on some caps but those are easily replaceable too. You could look at things on something like KeebFinder and see what you like.
It’s the human version of the most common form of organisation. Lion prides, baboon troupes, bison herds, wolf packs. It’s the same concept: getting together to pool resources and knowledge to have a better life than going it alone. Most of the problems come from human fantasy. It won’t make everyone overflow with rapturous joy every moment of every day. It won’t be a cakewalk. But the collective power of a group of likeminded people working together has a ‘greater than the sum of its parts’ effect. As long as it can be maintained, it’s better quality of life than being alone in the world and freer than being part of a large scale society. Its only weaknesses are the primary reasons so many people don’t live like that: human unsatisfiability and military weakness. Even if you start with a great group, to maintain it you need the next generation and someone always is born or introduced who doesn’t hold the values of the group, and wants the group to change to suit what they want. And if it doesn’t self destruct, its size is limited, and can be conquered by a larger group focused on the values of their ‘leaders.’
There are some benefits. Using it as a transmission lets you pick a gear like a mode. Want to have more efficient stop and go? Low gear. Want a more efficient highway drive? Higher gear. Direct drive is an option on some but a problem on others. Many vehicles also have a transmission that sits in the middle of the vehicle and delivers the power to the rear wheels. In those cases, it’s much easier to do the work in the engine bay than try to fit a motor in harder to access/modify areas of the vehicle. It’s all pros/cons to consider.
Look into what wildflowers are native to your area and get some seeds. It’s minimal cost and helps the local pollenators.
Make a bee hotel post. (Various sizes of hole drilled into a piece of upright untreated log) Solitary bees need a place to nestle in too.
If you are a ‘car guy’ you might have the skills to do an electric conversion. Get someone’s old junker with a good transmission, rip out the gas motor and strap in an electric and some batteries. Or do it small first on two wheels.
If you can get away with it, try some guerilla gardening to enhance the local growth off your patch as well. Natural with some help can be even better/more biodiverse than untouched woodlands.
If you don’t have it already, get some mechanical help for heavy lifting and holding. It’s technically possible for a single person to do a lot, but not if they crush themselves trying to hold up something that needs a machine to lift. If it’s ever a fight, you need help, whether it’s a person or a machine.
