True wireless will never ever be BIFL because it has a battery and requires software and thus periodic updates and bugs.
All of which the new sodium batteries solve. Massively improved cycle life, completely safe, and the environmental cost is a tiny fraction of what it is with lithium-based.
I don’t get why there aren’t 50 companies rushing to produce it at-scale for in-place batteries. They should be chomping at the bit trying to get government contracts to install massive battery parks.
Maybe it is just too new that they want to see how the small batteries do in the field.
Damn, I saw a video on why they use molten salt years ago, something about the balance of cost, thermal mass, and the fact that it won’t boil off like conventional liquids.
I think I understand what he is getting at.
Your argument is that we should build the fastest, cheapest option.
Up until recently, fossil fuels were the fastest, cheapest option. He is getting at the point that by your logic, we never should have moved off of coal and gas and started investing in solar because it wasn’t fast and cheap.
People didn’t follow your logic and instead heavily invested in solar and wind until it actually became the fastest, cheapest option that it is today.
Nuclear could have a similar rise in fiscal efficiency if we invested in it.
But his original point is that you are focusing on “the fastest and cheapest” (i.e. what is best for “the economy”) which is the entire reason we are in this mess to begin with, because everyone wanted what was best for “the economy” and always kept the profitability of the energy companies as a high priority. This is the same thing you are repeating now.
We should not care what is the fastest and cheapest. We should be spending a metric fuck ton of all of our collective money to switch 100% over to green energy both in nuclear AND renewables . The worst thing that will happen with that plan is we overbuild and energy becomes very cheap and energy companies don’t get their precious profits. Again, “oh no the economy.” Nationalize energy. It doesn’t need to make a great profit, it needs to be severely regulated and it is a basic human utility in the modern day.
As for nuclear disasters, I would watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jzfpyo-q-RM&t=545s How many nuclear disasters has France had who has run on 70-90% nuclear power for many decades? As for spent nuclear fuel, spent coal ash is literally radioactive for longer than spent nuclear fuel and per unit energy it produces more radioactive waste and we have no qualms about that. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/coal-ash-is-more-radioactive-than-nuclear-waste/ https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Kn2l3MoisDs We don’t even test for radioactivity around the extreme majority of coal plants in the world.
I really never understand why right wing governments without exception choose to not only hinder, but actively remove green energy. Like, I get hindering it because they are all owned by fossil fuel oligarchs, but actually spending taxpayer money to dismantle it makes no sense whatsoever. It is already there, just ignore it??? There is literally no downside to just ignoring it. If the right shut the fuck up about green energy and just went with it, they could solve half of their impending “immigrant problem” and could focus effort on fucking up and making other parts of the country worse like they want… Plus if climate change ends up not being “a hoax” 🙄, then they get to continue being parasites instead of their nationalism and identity falling apart as the world does.
Been falling way behind with gardening because of our full only-thing-standing-is-walls renovation + upkeep of around 50 small trees and a few hedges, but my mother in law came over and weeded all of the overgrown plant beds from the previous owner and planted some tomatoes, pumpkins, and courgette. 😁
Yes they do. Plaque buildup leads to gingivitis and cavities. It is in one’s best interest to reduce plaque not because it makes your teeth look good, but because it will help you not have receding gums when you are older which leads to exposed roots, root canals, tooth replacements, etc…

Here is a long term study

Both probing depth and clinical detachment loss of the teeth were improved with an electric toothbrush.
