The main problem (been loosely following it for a bit) was that he essentially created a hybrid sheep with one that is invasive for the area. He for sure did it for trophy hunting, but at the risk of messing up the ecology of the areas he was putting it in. Arguably this is a kind minor fine ($20k for introducing an invasive species), so idk. The articles I’ve seen act mostly like it wasn’t a big deal, but he was pretty blatently trying to skirt the law through the use of trying to make a hybrid.

They also often have a lifespan, even if it is generally a long one. The US is beginning to have to decommission a lot of dams across the country, because they have become a danger to towns downstream from them. And it’s both not cheap and not usually viewed as necessary until one bursts and does a lot of damage.

Interesting concept, but it’s basically trying to store hydrogen for winter, with up to 60% losses. It’s main advantages are that it’s kinda simple and shouldn’t have a charge/discharge limit, but it’s really just meant for cold climates where you would have a surplus of solar in the summer and you could use it much later, like in the winter. Not gonna be great for grid level storage, to lossy.

Look at passive solar, it’s probably the easiest method for decreasing energy use. It often does call for thick walls and roofs with radiant barriers, but the underlying principle is taking advantage of the sun’s position changing throughout the year (provided you aren’t on the equator).
