The Traditional City simply refers to the pattern of development that human civilization has built in for millenia.

Very interesting, but I’m not sure I agree with him fully. We’re talking about cities here, and they tend to be big. Sure, encouraging people to walk a Mile is nice, but anything longer and people will look for some kind of transportation, no matter how walkable the city is.

I mean used to walk home from the trainstation after work, just to get some exercise and fresh air, but not everybody has time for this.

1 mile is definitely too far for sure. This researcher recommends 400m as the default between metro stops. https://humantransit.org/2011/04/basics-walking-distance-to-transit.html

You can combine a traditional city with a train system, to get the best of both worlds. It’s not either/or.

From Wikipedia: The 15-minute city is an urban planning concept in which most daily necessities and services, such as work, shopping, education, healthcare, and leisure can be easily reached by a 15-minute walk, bike ride, or public transit ride from any point in the city. This approach aims to reduce car dependency, promote healthy and sustainable living, and improve wellbeing and quality of life for city dwellers.
