Found a few of these behind my house alongside a lot of blackberries. I wanted to verify they are safe, before I attempt picking them.

There’s several dozen blueberry and bilberry species in the Vaccinium genus and it’ll be very hard for anyone to identify which one this is based solely on these photos with no knowledge of where the plant was found.

It does look like a plant of that genus and to my knowledge there aren’t any poisonous species in it, but I don’t know the plants in your area.

I guess I want to be sure that there aren’t and toxic varieties of wild blueberries.

Blueberry leaves can actually be great for making tea. Technically you can eat them too but they don’t really taste like much.
