Worth bearing in mind that “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” was meant to be in that order. But the first two are a threat to capitalism so the messaging that gets promoted to us on TV, the radio, through billboards, and on posters heavily emphasizes “Recycle” because recycle even gives a manufacturer the opportunity to sell you a product that may have actually been cheaper for them to manufacture from non-virgin materials and a slight markup.

But how we REALLY slow climate change is by reducing our consumption and start acting as daily stewards of the environments we exist in, reusing the goods that we have already have, including repairing them, and recycling a good as a last resort when no other option is available to us.

I’ve been trying to reduce and reuse as much as I can, but I feel like the amount of necessary plastic that comes into my home is… infinite? I buy a carton of milk and a carton of oat milk every week, at the end of the month I have eight cartons. I turn basically all plastic containers into containers for other things (and the cartons are steadily becoming planters for my balcony garden) but I’m reaching the point where I have nothing left to contain. And I can’t stop buying milk… I dunno, just something I’ve been thinking about lately.

Ultimately - as the video concludes - I suspect that we need to pressure corporations to become stewards of the environment but that feels way more overwhelming than making a milk jug planter :c

Basically what the video says :') A lot of us here are aware that it was literally made up but I didn’t know in detail just how bad it is

My point being that, though the video may very well contain insightful points, the title is easily answered internally and reflexively by all but the most unaware readers… thereby eliminating interest in all but the blithely curious. 🤷🏼‍♂️
