Hey everyone ! as some of you may know, i’m currently making some concept arts of a solarpunk city for an animation project, and there is one thing that i find particularly complicated, it’s the urban design and street design ! It’s one big puzzle and the things i find on the internet are not quite what i want and i might miss some keywords. (also a LOT of AI images so it doesn’t help)
Does anyone have good resources on urban design planning, like cadastral maps in sustainable city studies ? I know there is a lot of take on that from wonderful artists, but I’m searching for a more “technical” point of view.
I’ve also heard that redesigning urban spaces is an effective way to help ensure women’s safety. If anyone knows of maps designs made on the subject It would be greatly appreciated, I found serveral interesting articles on the subject but it is often staying kind of general in terms of solutions.
Cheers everyone !

I find that Gothenburg tends to have very easily digestible materials about planning, from guides to actual detail plans with nice graphics.

Here’s a brochure summarizing their general approach to urban design, for example: https://goteborg.se/dx/api/dam/v1/collections/7e8b1b3a-e30e-480b-a156-394933b22134/items/f43d3c1e-81c6-4867-950e-da0302d21aa6/renditions/0885a5d1-6586-4bb1-a99a-29044ffd3735?binary=true

And here’s the page with all their urban planning stuff: https://goteborg.se/wps/portal/start/goteborg-vaxer/sa-planeras-staden

Obviously has to be translated but that should be painless enough

I’m probably biased in saying this, but I’m a fan of the red and green handbooks (handboeken Rood or Groen) from Amsterdam, but they are only available in Dutch, if you don’t mind using a translator to help you

It goes in depth and there are a lot of pictures and illustrations. It is based on the PDF alert! Puccini Method, which tries to make designs that are user friendly and accessible

    You can find them here

A summary can also be seen here with the main principles

The two handbooks contain the technical specifications of the policy, including drawings, technical details and lists of materials.

    PDF alert below!

    1. Red Handbook covers pavements, street lighting and street furniture.
    2. Groen Handboeken covers the correct planting of greenery in the city, including trees, perennials, grasses, shrubs and wadi gardens.

oh woah, this looks actually really great for the project i’m on, I’ll have to look into it a bit more but the summary is really interesting, it seems a lot is covered, I downloaded the pdf’s, the traduction part might be a bit tedious but it seems really well organized so it will ease the researches.
Also I was so foccused on road and cycling space amenagement that i Absolutely did not think about “correct planting of greenery”, so it will surely come really handy ~
thanks very much for those resources !!
